You know those days that your toddler keeps asking a million and one questions? Well in this house we tend to have a lot of those days lately. Sometimes its easy to just keep repeating the same answer, over and over; other times its more fun to make silly things up to catch them off guard or leave them puzzled. Granny has recently been staying with us and loves to do this very thing. So I came home from driving school yesterday (I got a ticket, I know naughty, naughty) to hear about this lovely conversation they had while I was out.
Setting the scene: 8:00 AM, kids just woke up, Mommy is at driving school already, Daddy is at work, and Granny is left in charge of both kiddies.
Buba: “Granny, What did you do with my Mommy?”
Granny: “She is in school today.” giggling at his random question.
Buba: “What did you do with my Daddy?”
Granny: “Daddy is at work.”
Buba: “What did you do with Granddad?”
Granny: “Put him in a hole in the garden.” purely joking because of million questions.
Buba: stopping to seriously process this, he replied,”With a digger?”
The belly busting that must have went down after this, I can only imagine. After spitting out my own coffee I was drinking, I started to think, maybe he is at this age where we can no longer say funny replies because he is finally getting to that age where he truly believes us and takes us so literal. The last thing we need to have is our toddler telling everyone we used a digger to bury his granddad.
Buba is 2 and 1/2 next month and constantly changing everyday on us. It’s sad to watch his baby-ness go away but exciting to see this little boy he has become. He is getting more independent and outspoken everyday. His jabberbox was entertaining at first but now from the moment he wakes up, to the moment he goes to bed, his mouth is running. Hmmm I wonder where he gets that from? (looking at the ground, dragging my toe side to side).
When he was little, we use to stretch our arms out for him to run and jump into our arms and swing him around in a circle. The bigger he gets, the more impossible it is to do this without hurting us. Buba unknown to his new size doesn’t understand and continues to run at us full board and instead of hugging around our legs, he now puts his two arms out and bounces off our legs. For a few weeks now we have been trying to teach him that this hurts and isn’t very nice. Plus he could hurt himself. So this week instead of not doing it, Buba decides he will continue to do so but with manners!
Setting the scene: 5:00 pm and I am cooking spaghetti in the kitchen, from behind me, one 2 1/2 year old is running full force at the back of my legs, arms stretched out upon impact almost succeeds in pushing me over. As he bounces off the back of my legs onto the floor, he says, “Sorry about that, Mommy” and gets up to do it again. Then he walks over to his baby sister in her swing next to me, taps her on the head, and says, “Sorry about that!” Its frustrating that he is being naughty but funny to hear his sarcasm in his voice at such a young age.
So this week we are working on explaining that it’s great to say sorry for accidents but not for things he does on purpose! Dear me, I think this lesson might take a little bit longer to process, in the meantime I need to get better balance and shin guards!
Do your kids to or say funny things? Have you joking answered something funny to their hundred questions for shock value just to say something different? I would love to hear them, comment below.
The questions! It’s like being interrogated. If I try to make up an answer, my son asks a logical follow up that sees right through it! I’ve resorted to “I really don’t know” often.
I love that, thank you I am going to go with I don’t really know. Haha what an easy answer although I am sure I will get why? But why don’t you know? Hahaha
I love that kids think they can do anything if they say sorry. And the other one – please will get you everything you ever wanted!
Haha I know, I can’t seem to teach him that it’s polite to say please but doesn’t always mean he can have it or do it. This is very frustrating for him at the moment. The funny stages they go through, I love them all. Thanks again for hosting a fab linky.
Ahh yes they I’m sorry and that fixing everything. Love it x
I never thought having a toddler would be so highly entertaining and fun. I could write a book with all his funny one liners, pleas, and conversations. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. 😉
Fabulously funny! 🙂
Thank you, just about to write another funny one as we speak. Hope you will pop back by. My 2 year old keeps us highly entertained with his new found words, communication and made up language. Never a dull moment.
Little Miss is normally the one to talk strange thing’s, but she is going through the *why* stage, tearing our hair out is a understatement, Parent 2 has taken to replying with, *why are you asking me* takes her so long to figure out how to reply, we have managed to escape and she forgets the first question!
