6 Tips for Making the Most Out of Your Backyard

When you are busy with work, home, and family life, it is easy for your garden to get overlooked. But with the summer months here, your backyard is a great place to spend time outside with the family. Here are some tips on how to make the most out of your outdoor space.

Set Up a BBQ Seating Area

If you haven’t got one already, having a place where you can cook and eat outdoors as a family is a great way to all come together and spend time in the backyard. A mixture of comfy seating and a table for eating at provides plenty of space for everyone. Add a fire pit too and you and the kids can roast marshmallows and make s’mores after the BBQ. If you have a deck in the back yard, this is a great place to set up the seating and eating area.

Put In a Pool

Putting in a swimming pool, or even a smaller inflatable paddling pool is a great addition to your back yard if you have room. Not only will it keep the kids happy, but it’s also a great way to cool down after a day at work. Whether it’s an in-ground pool or an above ground pool, it’s a way to get outside and spend some family time. It can be good for your health too, and even add value to your home.

Build a Batting Cage

If you have the room and your kids are baseball fans, you can build your own batting cage for you and the kids to enjoy. Building your own DIY batting cage will be cheaper than buying one and can give you hours of endless fun in the backyard. It would save you having to pay to rent one out, and if your kids are keen hitters, it will help contain balls and stop them flying into neighbors’ windows!

Include a Play Structure

Kids love nothing more than climbing and swinging and letting off steam outside. You could install a climbing frame or swing set depending on the age of the kids. It’s important for kids to have their own space outside so having something like this, or even building a treehouse, is a great way of creating this for them. A treehouse can even become somewhere they escape to as they grow older.

Use Artificial Grass

Putting in artificial grass in your backyard means you can use it all year round. Kids won’t be dragging in muddy feet even if they want to play outside in the winter. Water drains away quickly, and it also looks great all year round. It is tough and durable and very low maintenance as it is easy to clean. You won’t need to mow it, but you may need to vacuum it occasionally! Got a dog? No problem, you can get pet friendly artificial grass too.

Add Some Lighting

Adding lighting to your backyard is another great way to maximize the time you can spend out there. You can sit out and enjoy it well into the evening if you have some subtle lighting options. You can add spotlights to trees or plants to make a focal point out of them. Adding lighting along a pathway is also another great way to light your backyard. Festoon lights are popular and would be great to add to your outdoor seating and eating area, meaning you can sit out and enjoy summer socializing for longer.

These are just a few great ways to get the family together and spend quality time outside, making the most out of your own backyard.
