It’s no secret here that I have a little obsession with tableware more importantly tablescapes. I love styling my table for any occasion whether that be for a special occasion like Christmas or Thanksgiving or even something as simple as a Sunday breakfast with my family.
Sundays are one of my favorite days of the week. It’s the day we spend as a family and sometimes we make it to church and sometimes we all climb into our big bed and have quality cuddle time. On the Sundays we don’t venture out I whip up a big breakfast for us all. I have so many memories of us all gathering around the table for breakfast growing up and I want that for my kids too. It doesn’t always have to be crepes or pancakes or bacon & eggs sometimes it might just be some toasted waffles and a few croissants with jam. Whatever it is, it’s always about us spending time together as a family. We eat our Sunday breakfast in our pjs and talk about what we will do for the week commencing.
For me, a good tablescape has to have dishes that suit that occasion. A Sunday breakfast is a casual affair so you don’t want to take out your fancy Christmas dishes but we don’t want to grab for the paper plates just yet either. I am absolutely loving these Enamel Tableware from The Orchard. They are affordable, durable, and I love the vintage style look to them. They are perfect for the kids too as they can’t break them. The cups are large just how I like them for my Sunday morning coffees and the bowls are deep for Mr P’s blueberry, walnut porridge. I adore the white with grey trim on them that makes matching other dishes I have easy. I was impressed to learn you can even put these in the oven up to 270 degrees. Now, that’s handy as I like to make bacon and sausage and leave it on a plate in the oven to stay hot while I am making scrambled eggs and toasting the toast.
The best part of our dinning room is it is south facing so Sunday morning breakfast time is the best time of the day to be in there soaking up the first rays of light. I love how the light floods itself over our dining room table. It always feels so bright and merry in this room. You want that light therapy while you are just waking up to enjoy a nice breakfast with your family. I love the kind of breakfast that are more like buffets where everyone can grab a little of everything from waffles, croissants to fruit and porridge if they please. Mr P goes for his tea while I stick to strong coffee.
One of my new favorite things to eat is raspberry jam on warm croissants with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. It’s a delicious sweet treat or if you prefer a healthier options check out my over night oats in a jar recipe here for some amazing porridge breakfast ideas. Mr P loves his porridge with blueberries, almonds & walnuts, and a dash of cinnamon like below.
Some tablescapes I go all out with flowers, lights, table accessories galore for occasions like a birthday or a holiday but a Sunday breakfast you want it to feel like it’s inviting but casual. I stick to decorating with things like the orange juice jug. a bowl of apples and little bamboo tree in the middle. It gives it a fresh look but keeps it minimal. You can use various linens to spice up a white table cloth or table runners are great to add color and themes to a tablescape. I love fresh flowers for tablescapes if you can pick some up. You can find them at places like Tesco for £1 or £2 in little bunches. You don’t need much on the table just don’t block your view of your guests at the table, that’s one of my pet peeves.
I love a big mug and these would be great for winter soups too not just your morning coffee or tea. I was thinking of making some pumpkin soup or beef stew in them soon. I love soups and stews in oversized mugs. There is nothing I can get out of a little tea cup except that it’s cute and has two sips of liquid in it and I need a refill.
Do you love a nice Sunday breakfast? Do you have family traditions of sitting at the table whether it be for dinner or perhaps lunch on the weekend when you are all home?
I have many sets of dishes for various occasions for our family table. I always keep an eye out for major sales on them or discontinued signs to scoop up another set. One can never have enough tableware in my eyes. Places like charity shops are great for sets of two for when it’s just a romantic set for Mr P and I long after the kids have gone to bed and we want a late night dinner together. This Enamal collection is perfectly priced too see below. I have my eye on a few more items in their collection to add to my own collection here soon.

Oh Jenny!!! This is like my dream post. I love enamel kitchenware. I have four enamel mugs that I use A LOT but would love to add more to my collection. I find that they’re perfect to use outside and on picnics because they’re quite sturdy but you have little worry about them smashing. Gorgeous styling xxx
Thank you so much Rachel. I love them too. It’s great for outdoor and kid use too. We use these for breakfast a lot too. Love the grey trim on these too. I love a good breakfast buffet.
Gorgeous! I didn’t know you could put enamel in the oven either! We’re doing our kitchen just now, so will seriously consider enamel as our crockery choice. Oh how I long to get our table back too! x
Pinnnnnnnned! Such gorgeous dinnerware! I’m in love with your creamer and sugar cannister. I’m also now hungry.
