Welcome your friends and family into your home at Christmas time with a Christmas Gift Box for the spare bedroom. Everyone wants to feel cozy and at home when they are away from home especially during the holidays. It’s nice to add that special touch to help ensure they feel this way if they are staying with you for the holidays. I love making up little gift boxes for my guests no matter what time of year they are staying with me. There are endless options of items you can put in a gift box depending on the season.

I wanted to share with you this year’s Christmas gift box for my guests. With our spare bedroom our guests have their own ensuite bathroom. So I made sure to have some festive towels and luxury shampoo, conditioner and lotion if they perhaps forgot their own or just want a little special pamper since they aren’t in the comfort of their own home. With the holidays those chilly nights can be brutal so a holiday hot water bottle to cozy up to in the bed and some reindeer slipper socks to slip on their feet when they get out of the shower. But I think the real luxury is making yourself a hot chocolate and nibbling on a chocolate candy bar at bedtime screams it’s Christmas and makes you feel festive and cheery, add a Christmas mug to that list too. What’s a Christmas Gift Box without a candle or two? Of course, my favorite candle had to be thrown in there too. The flickering lights of a candle in the bath or reading by the bed by candle light is a great way to unwind and feel at home.

So how do I go about creating the perfect Christmas gift box? Well, first you need to decide on whether you want it a present basket or box? I have gone for this gorgeous shabby chic, super light weight Zeller present box  for my guests this year. It turns into a great home decor keepsake too. You can use wooden boxes around the house for numerous things like flipping it on it’s side to create a mini bookcase, store small blanket throws next to the sofa, or magazines. It could be used for smaller toys on top of a child’s dresser or in the playroom to pull out full of legos. You can do some much with a box or a basket that’s why they always make great hampers.

The second thing I think about is the season. This is easy because it’s Christmas. I thought about all the things that remind me of Chrsistmas like hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, chocolates, hot water bottle and I went from there. But if it was summer time, I might have put in beach towels, flip flops, a pen & notebook, and sunblock. You can match your gift box to the seasons easily. For Autumn perhaps a fuzzy throw blanket, gloves, and an umbrella.

Finally, I add special touches. This year’s Christmas Gift Box has two Christmas ornaments they get to take home. It’s a token of their holiday shared with us in our home and all the memories we made for years to come.

I could have put a lot more in to make our guests feel comfortable and at home. I had so many ideas this box could have been over flowing from fresh flowers and a vase for the bedside cabinet, snuggly throw blanket, some twinkly lights to hang on the bed, baubles in a bowl for the window seal, eye mask to sleep soundly, or perhaps some slippers.

What would you put in a gift box for your guests?

Christmas is one of my favorite times of year, definitely my favorite holiday. All the twinkling lights, happy cheer, friends and family gathering, christmas trees, the markets, shopping and the general buzz about it all. What’s not to love?

If my husband would let me I would buy Christmas bedding to change all our bedding in the house to really put that Christmas decorations to the next level. I just might have to ask one year for my Christmas present so I can do it the following year. Do you own holiday bedding? Do tell…

Happy Holidays

  1. Wow! I’ve never thought about doing this before. I’m sure it would make any guest feel welcome. Holiday bedding would definitely take it to the next level! Happy Holidays!

    • Oh I love making welcoming baskets at anytime someone stays over. You can make some fun spring and summer ones too! Always got ideas in my heads for them. I would love holiday bedding but doubt hubby will ever go for it.

  2. I absolutely love this idea Jenny. Is that your actual guest bedroom? It’s so beautiful! I’d love any part of my house to look as lovely as this – I think perhaps you’ve missed your calling as an interior designer. One day when we have a house with a guest room I’m definitely going to make guests feel as special as they must do when they stay with you.

  3. Gosh Jenny, I’m now feeling incredibly inadequate as a host! I haven’t thought about anything Christmassy for our guests and we have people staying at Christmas and New Year! I need to get on it. I love the idea of Christmas bedding and towels, plus the hot chocolate. Actually I think I might come and stay at yours instead! x
