Creating Perfect Summer Ambience with Garden Lighting

Last updated on May 5th, 2024 at 03:15 pm

We have teamed up with Philip Hue, once again, to push their smart lighting to the ultimate outdoor test. Creating the perfect summer ambience with garden lighting is the best way to get ready for those garden parties this summer.

From spotlighting, strip lighting and pedestal lighting, I am here to show you how easy it is to install and how quick you can transform your dim garden into a ray of colors.

There is something about lighting that creates an ambience that makes you just relax and chill. It’s part of making memories without even knowing it too. With our garden lighting, I know we can have the kids playing outside long after dark with their toys and we can hang out as a family together.

Like the Philip Hue indoor smart lighting, you can change from white light to 16 million different light combinations. Just envision for a garden party setting the scene with purples, pinks and blue hues coming from your flowerbeds or streaming out from underneath your seating area. They can be controlled, dimmed, brightened, timed and scheduled via the app as well.

Let’s talk about the Philips Hue Lily Spotlights.

For garden lighting, I would definitely start with and recommend the Hue Lily spotlights if you have flowerbeds or hedges. They are quick and easy to install just pop down to my video below to have a peak for yourself. I like focusing either on a big tree or the ends of hedges with my spotlights. This gives your garden lighting a focal point to follow. You might want to spread them out or cluster them together around a bigger tree if you only have one large tree or plant to light up. In the front of your house, you could have them lighting up your walkway or up lighting your house even. There are so many options with the spotlights.

The Hue Lily Spotlights can be controlled and changed by use of your Philips Hue App. Like all of the Philips Hue lights, you can schedule timers, change colors, turn off and on as you please. The app is so easy to download and setup with the lighting as well, you can see it in more detail in my video here.

Next, try adding some Philips Hue Tuar Outdoor Pedestal lighting  for that luxury lighting look.

I think the pedestal lights are gorgeous and chic. While you can add them to your flowerbeds or the end of a path or even along a path to give off a soft summer glow, we added ours underneath our front window and love the new glow it gives our front garden.

Please note that these had to be installed by an electrician, unlike the spotlights that are easy to install yourself. However they connect to the Philips Hue app just the same and can be controlled like other Philips Hue lights. Although these are only white, I think the soft warm lighting is perfect for the garden.

Now, I just need to get that beautiful astroturf for our front garden so it matches our back garden and it would look perfect. We absolutely love our astroturf in the back, it’s great for the kids playing out and the baby crawling around on. No manual labor needed to keep it looking gorgeous!

And who doesn’t love adding a few light strips around the house? Let’s turn those seating areas into a welcoming havens using Philips Hue Lightstrips.

You can choose between 2 or 5 metre lightstrips and have numerous lightstrips following each other. They are easy to install with a few screws and snap in brackets that come with the lightstrips. We added ours to our seating areas underneath our benches. You can do the same or think outside the box and use them around planters, under window seals, or around sofas in your garden. If you can a gazebo or umbrella area too. Your options are endless. They give off a stream of glowing ambience from wherever you install it.

Lastly but not in the least less important, add some mood by using the Philips Hue Go portable light bowls.

I call these my mood bowls. They are portable so you can actually take them inside or outside. We use these all over the house for so many things. Our children have them as night lights throughout the night, using the app and setting timers for them has been amazing. We use them in our offices for a softer light when we are working away and I bring mine to my big armchair when I want to read my book. Since I can dim or brighten the light using the app and change to any color I want these have been such a mood setter in our house.

Now, they are setting the mood in our garden. We used them for Halloween to spook out the front of our house and in our pumpkins too. The kids like to have them when we eat dinner outside and it gets dark early. I love having them when we are having summer garden party. There are three seating areas in our garden and it’s fun to set different areas in different colors and really makes the garden become an oasis of colors.

I think because they are soft glowing they are just like having a flickering candle for ambience without the flame risk. I couldn’t recommend these more for indoor and outdoor use.

  1. I love how it has transforms your garden, especially the different colours. Do they have an affect on your mood? I think I’d be choosing different ones to suit the mood for sure x

  2. I love the idea of these Jenny, our garden is seriously lacking different lighting options. I’m probably not into the idea of getting an electrician in to install the pedestal lights but the spotlights etc would work really well 🙂 Definitely going to invest in some of these. Thank you for sharing. xx
