Cuddles & selfies upon our return

Friday was one of our friend’s wedding in Liverpool, where we had ‘our first night away without the kids’. We have individually been away for a night but we have never both been away together. It was so hard to leave them overnight. I knew they would be in good hands with Granny but it’s a parent thing, I still was nervous more for Granny than the kids. Would they be too much for her to handle, a hyper two year old and a newly mobile 8 month old?

I found myself checking my phone, texting at dinner, texting at bedtime, and texting just one more time to make sure all went smoothly. We are lucky that both kids are great sleepers so I knew as soon as 7:30 pm passed I could settle down and enjoy the evening.

The best bit of the whole thing was coming home to both of our kids. Opening our front door and hearing Buba screech at the top of his lungs Mommy! Daddy! running over to us and wrapping his little arms around our necks. Missy Moo was in her bouncer and was just as excited when I rounded the corner to the living room and caught sight of me. I have never seen her bounce so hard to get out, in my life. Her smile melted my heart, as soon as I picked her up, she gave me the biggest cuddle ever.

These receptions are worth going away for just one night, to come home, be so loved and cuddled it is the best feeling in the world.

Hugs and kisses may be ordinary, but these little ordinary moments should never be taken for granted. It’s now Monday yet I can’t get enough of their kisses and hugs. I never will. They are so precious.

We also have a new favorite pastime that Buba just can’t get enough of, taking selfies. Not just of him, but of all of us. Mr. P. isn’t as into it as we are, but we love to play around capturing funny moments together.

So today I am cherishing this oh so ordinary things to do, of taking selfies and cuddles, without which I wouldn’t have such funny memories of attempting to get us all in the shot with my loved ones. Laughing at who’s head gets cut off or who looks the funniest up close. I daresay Missy Moo isn’t as into it like her Daddy as Buba and I. Someday soon though, that will change I can imagine.

  1. Gorgeous photos of you, just lovely. That’s the thing isn’t it, we relish a bit of time on our own and to have a bit of a break, but we actually miss them lots and can’t wait to get back to them. And the hello you get when they see you again is such a wonderful feeling! Glad you had a great time at the wedding. x

    • Thank you Katie, we really did have a blast but the best bit was coming home to the sweetest reception ever. I couldn’t tell you how loved and overwhelmingly bittersweet it all was. Made a great weekend end perfectly. Besides, the tomato soup accident on my cream linen dining room chairs. But we won’t spoil it with that now. lol Thanks for hosting.

    • It truly is the best part, returning and them running/crawling into your arms with that love in their eyes. No one can ever recreate that! It’s priceless. Do it, it’s good for both parents and kids! Enjoy your parents visit too.

  3. Those selfies are so lovely! And nothing beats cuddles, especially when you come in from having been away from them for a while, even if it’s just an hour or two. And especially after a night away.

    • Yes I could believe how overwhelming loved I felt walking back through the front door. It was bittersweet for sure! Selfies are grainy but you can’t beat a good moment. lol

    • Haha we are getting better at selfies it’s a learning process. Yes we are, as we didn’t have her around the first two years with Buba it’s been amazing to have her around now especially with two. We didn’t get any babysitting for two years so it was long overdue as all my family live in America. We are so grateful now. We had a blast too. At first I was nervous but then once I got dancing with Mr P it was long overdue.

  4. You gorgeous bunch, what lovely selfies! We are having a night away in April for my very best friends wedding and I’m a little nervous, even though it is only 40 mins away. I’m glad you enjoyed your night though and extra special to come home to that greeting x

    • It’s hard a first, the first few hours but then it’s so worth it. It’s good for both parents and kids. Promise. Enjoy every minute of it because it is rare but lovely to come home to those cuddles too. Worth it just for that.

  5. The best part of being away is definitely coming home to those big hugs, kisses, and squeals of “I missed you”! Whenever my husband or I have to go out of town the kids take comfort in having a sleepover together. They hunker down in one of their rooms and have a talk about how much they miss mommy or daddy before bed…it is the sweetest thing, especially since they usually fight like cats and dogs! The selfies are great! Bubby is 5 and totally into selfies…I just had to delete about 50 from his Kindle that were of about a third of his face and/or blurry…he is also partial to doing selfies with me in the wee hours of the morning on my cell while I’m still sleeping lol! I have deleted countless shots of my sleeping face 🙂 Missy Moo will definitely come around…and even though she is not that into it, she always looks so darn cute!

    • I love getting my phone off Buba and seeing that there are random pictures of his feet, half a face, and the wall mostly about a hundreds time over. lol Good old selfies. Never been good at it myself. Need a longer arm. lmao

    • Never good when you get the double chin in but hard as I don’t have that long of arms. A good selfie comes from long armed people! lol hahaha Cuddles really are the best for sure.

    • That’s funny, I just started. I have never been good at selfies. But Buba is becoming a pro! lol Liverpool was good, we only saw the wedding venue though, otherwise I have never been. But meeting up with the friends we met and going on a night out and a shopping day trip so I will let you know. Heard great things about it. lol

    • Thanks Anna. It’s too bad selfies always come out so grainy. But they capture the moment that’s what makes the most. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  8. I actually like the graininess. Makes them look more authentic. I love your sons curls too. Dexter’s look like a shaggy mop but I can’t bring myself to cut it.

    • I know I think we cut it too short this time and he lost a lot of curls. Grainy but a great moment and that’s what counts haha. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
