I am petrified of breast cancer. I think most women are but having numerous female family members whom have had it, it’s always at the forefront of my mind. It has affects my family for generations. I think with having my own daughter now I hope that not only I don’t carry this family curse nor does she.
I am always trying to get involved with charities that help support those affected by breast cancer. I think it’s amazing how many organizations and companies now do support the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) like SABRE. SABRE is a personal safety companies with a product line that directly supports NBCF with every sale. They have already raised over a $1 million so far. That’s saying something with medical costs and support that have gone on to help those receiving life-saving treatments. I don’t think enough women are educated on what to look for to help prevent or know early detection signs. These companies help fund programs that do just that and could save lives.
We need to have empowerment from the inside out and protect ourselves. Watching our health, staying fit, mental checkups and what we eat are just as important as personal safety walking down the street. As a woman, I feel vulnerable to breast cancer, it could strike anytime out of nowhere. The same way I feel vulnerable walking down a dark street at night, someone could strike anytime out of nowhere. It’s a fact, women are more vulnerable in these situations but we can help prevent and detect breast cancer and we can be more prepared on our personal safety.
SABRE is a company that does just that. They sell personal alarm key rings and even pepper spray dispensers. They even provide personal safety training and education. They are a company backed by so many for their amazing support to charities. Among their NBCF product line, I have had the honor to test out the pink personal alarm key ring which is a small key ring with a silver chain connected to an alarm. If you feel unsafe, need help, you pull the chain away from the fob and an alarm will sound at 110db reaching over 300 feet. It draws attention to people nearby and hopefully scares off anyone that shouldn’t be there. I have to say it looks just like a USB key ring so no one would know what it really is until you have literally sounded the alarm. The pink key rings supports the NBCF directly. The beauty of it’s small compact key ring is that you can attach it to the outside of our hangbag, purse, backpack, wallet, pant loop, car keys, pretty much anything so that it’s always in reach when you have an emergency.
It’s so easy to slide on and off anything that you carrying. Whether its a night out and you only have a small clutch or wallet or its an everyday large handbag or diaper bag like mine. I think now that I have children keeping me safe as much as them is vital. They need their Mommy. Personal safety is something to take serious and I really don’t think enough women do.
Even if you are popping into a store or shop in the evening and you only grab your keys, slide it on there. Store and shop parking lots are one of the top places for women to get followed, attacked, burgled, or jumped. It’s not nice to say it out loud but it’s true. Mine fits nicely on my brown wallet below which means it’s easy to throw in my diaper bag when I have the kids, in my handbag on days out solo, or just grabbing it for a that tub of ice cream at the corner shop on a Friday night.
I am not saying women can defend themselves and are vulnerable as in helpless. Having a personal alarm key ring is actually you doing quite the opposite you are shouting for help and scared your attacker off at a 110 db more than you would do without it.
It’s amazing that companies like SABRE have created such a product and that they go beyond supporting women just in personal safety but joining forced with the National Breast Cancer Foundation and supporting women from the very inside out.
