Careers in food are some of the most delicious and creative career options around. There are so many different possibilities when it comes to choosing a career in food.
If you aren’t brilliant at cooking, that doesn’t matter; you might be an incredble photographer and be able to capture all of those little wisps of steam as they come off a freshly cooked dish.
Or perhaps you have a way with words that leaves people salivating. There are plenty of options!
So if you are looking for some of the coolest careers around, then here is a great list.
Food scientist
Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of a food scientist; many people haven’t. A food scientist will study the chemical microbiology properties and the physical properties of food. Most of the time is to make sure that it’s safe for consumers.
However, most often, when we think of food scientists, we might think of Heston Blumenthal and some of the great things that he does with food.
A food scientist will be making sure that the nutritional value, flavour and texture of the food is as it is supposed to be and testing lots of different food samples.
Chef
Of course, when you talk about careers in food, being a chef is one of the most obvious answers.
Often a career as a chef starts with being a kitchen hand and learning the full trade stop although it is much more common for people to know to attend a chef school and have multiple certifications in cheffing as well as a specialisation in specific kinds of culinary delicacies
One of the most important things is to remember that chefs are under pressure all the time, even if they make it look easy. And that there are those chefs that have broken out of the kitchen and made it to the big screen like Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver for example.
Being a chef is a hugely passionate career, and most often, they’re not driven by salary; they’re driven by the desire to feed people delicious food.
But if you’re a chef in a top restaurant, you’re likely to have a big take-home pay.
Nutritionist
It is important to remember that there is a big difference between a nutritionist and a dietitian. Typically, a nutritionist will advise people about nutrition’s impact on health and food in general.
They will provide detailed advice and information to a wide range of people. Most nutritionists will work for research institutions, food manufacturers, local Communities and even sports personalities or organisations.
If that last one sounds very cool to you, you can do a sports nutritionist course online.
A dietitian will often work in a medical setting and help patients to understand their needs and any challenges they face when it comes to their eating—also designing meal plans that will keep their patients healthy.
