If you really think about it, we’re currently living in an age where everyone’s glued to their smartphones and social media feeds. Now, yes, that’s super obvious. Who doesn’t know that? But you also have to keep in mind that even though everyone is constantly connected on their phones, even those small details matter because, well, they can see it on their phones.

So, even if you’re running a home-based business, you have to make sure you’re doing what you can to make this a full-on success and honestly, one of the best way to really do this is by focusing more on the aesthetics of your product packaging. Yes, you read that right! Your product packaging has become so much more than just a container. It’s a marketing tool, a brand ambassador, and the secret sauce to generating user-generated content.

Those little details really can make all the difference from those swing tags that are on your clothes (especially ones that include a tiny brand story) or even the actual texture of a sticker that you include as a freebie! All of these tiny details add up, and content creators (and those who want to be content creators) will absolutely eat all of this up! So, with that all said, gorgeous product packaging can do wonders for your business, and here’s why you should pay attention to it.

Designing Share-Worthy Packaging

So, how do you design packaging that generates UGC? Well, you’ll need to start by understanding your brand’s identity and target audience. Your packaging should reflect the essence of your brand and resonate with your customers. It doesn’t matter if it’s minimalist and chic or bold and colourful; the design should be consistent with your overall brand aesthetic.

But this goes back to the intro just right above: you’re going to want to incorporate unique elements that make your packaging memorable. This could be a clever use of colours, textures, or materials.

Think outside the box – quite literally! Interactive packaging, like pull-out drawers, hidden messages, or reusable containers, can add an element of surprise and delight. These features not only make the unboxing experience more enjoyable but also increase the likelihood of customers sharing it online. These are ideas, but really get as creative as humanly possible; whatever you want, just try to have some fun with it!

You’ll Still Need to Encourage Sharing

Once your packaging is designed, encourage customers to share their experiences. It’s really empowering for you to see how happy people are, and yes, this means it gives you some UGC, too. So, this should include social media handles and hashtags on your packaging to make it easy for them to tag your brand in their posts.

But of course, you can go a step further, so why not run contests or giveaways to incentivise sharing? The more you engage with your customers and show appreciation for their content, the more they’ll want to create and share.

Remember, It’s THEIR Content

Suppose it’s a boring brown box with some tissue paper. Good luck getting anyone to share. There needs to be a reason. It’s their content. They want their content to look good and get engagement. Again, this isn’t your content! By investing in gorgeous packaging, you’re giving customers a reason to create and share content about your brand. But again, it needs to be gorgeous!
