Our first night away without the kids

We were ever so lucky to get a rare night away together from both of our kids for the first time on Friday. Our friend’s wedding in Liverpool was the perfect excuse. We left them at home with Granny, food stocked, routine written down, and lots of toys around them all in hopes to make it an easy night.

I was nervous as it was the first time both of us had ever left them overnight. We have individually be away for a night but not together. Only a few texts throughout the night and I felt better about it all.

I took my time getting ready without sticking fingers and snotty noses rubbing on me. I revelled in the fact that I got to put this gorgeous teal dress on from Darling instead of a pair of leggings and a tunic. I slipped my new patent nude shoes from Ted Baker on, remembering how it felt to be tall and feel pretty. It was a novelty for sure. Threw on an old fascinator I had from a wedding years ago, I believe I bought at Debenhams.

We were staying with some friends of the groom that we hadn’t met. So I wasn’t sure what to expect of the whole night. I was excited to have some quality time with Mr. P. all to myself since he didn’t really know many at the wedding either.

Dinner was fantastic! I didn’t care what was being served it was hot. I haven’t ate hot food in years. It was definitely another novelty of the night. We drank champagne and danced the night away like old times. It brought back so many memories of going out with Mr. P and dancing. My feet may have wanted to stop four hours before I did but I wasn’t listening. Nothing was going to stop us from enjoying every minute of this rare occasion.

Not only did we have a fantastic evening together, we made some good friends in the process. The couple we were staying with were lovely. They were so sweet to let us stay at their house without knowing us. By the end of the evening we were making plans on when we will next see them.

That’s what I love about weddings, meeting new people. C. was so sweet too. I didn’t feel like I didn’t know anyone or was left out while others had friends and family all around them. It was like C and I had known each other forever. We have so many things in common and her kids are absolutely adorable. So glad we met.

These two lovely ladies were at our table, and were quick to make me feel welcome. J on the right, turned out to be the brunette version of me, as she would say. These three ladies above and below really made the night on the dance floor. Thank you ladies.ย IMG_7057RS

The evening of dancing, meeting new friends and spending quality time with Mr. P. couldn’t have been better. As soon as I knew my kids were in bed at 7:30 pm I ย let my hair down. I haven’t felt like this version of me for a very long time. It felt good. I love being a Mommy, and that version of me most of the time but every once in awhile it’s good to get away for one night without the kids.ย

    • Ahhh Caroline thank you so much for the lovely comment. You are too sweet. It did feel weird but great to get all dressed up and wear heels even!!!! Hurray. Mr P and I had so much fun together. It really was like falling in love all over again. Not that we fell out. But to concentrate on just each other was amazing.

  2. So wonderful that you were able to get a night away from the kids! It has been so long since I’ve gone one a date with my husband without the kids! The last time I had a night out with my husband, just the two of us, was right after he got out of the Army and home from Germany in July of 2012. When we were both still in the Army we had friends that we would trade babysitting with. We both had two kids that were about the same age so we would take turns with watching the kids so we could have date nights.

    • That’s a long time girl, get yourselves booked for a babysitter pronto. It’s so important. Say me who hadn’t either in two years. lol Friends with the same age kids helps so much because you really can help each other than. I have to have that here as we don’t have any family here but my mother in law.

  6. What a wonderful post Jenny and you look amazing! I love that dress – just beautiful. It’s really tough going away for the first time but it must have been great to be able to have fun and let your hair down (so to speak!). Fabulous story, thank you so much for sharing #whatsthestory

    • Thanks for hosting and commenting as always Charly. You are ever so sweet. I loved the dress, at first because it was a bargain but then because it was so comfortable all night. Shoes a different story. lol It is hard but once we got there and started dancing I soon realized it was long overdue.

  7. Oh, you look fabulous Jenny! I’m a little jealous, being away from Granny limits the options for me and hubby to have a night away, and it would be so lovely to have one! I’m so glad that you had a lovely evening, we all deserve a little bit of couple time, remembering who we were before the kids came along ๐Ÿ™‚ Lovely post, it’s really made me smile xx #WhatstheStory

    • Thank you so much Sara so sweet of you. It felt weird at first being back in heels and a dress. I was waiting for the snotty noses, puke, and drool to return any minute. I know how hard it must be without Granny’s help. I only recently got my MIL help. But for two years it was hard with no family or friends to help out. I am just so grateful I have Mr P’s mom around especially with two. Mr P family all live in Ireland and mine in America so I know how you feel! It does get a bit isolated. I hope you have friends that you can take turns babysitting for and get your date nights in. They are important! Big hugs. xo
