Photography, a hat, and reality ~ #littleloves

Last updated on August 5th, 2024 at 09:03 am

It’s time for the little things I love about our week and this week seems to be slow and fast at the same time. Is that possible? I feel like for once I am caught up on everything and been taking a lot more time with the kids and myself and yet I feel it’s still flown by too.

It’s been a week with no colds of flus, no sniffles or coughs in this house. Can you believe it? Nor, can I! I have kicked started a new little routine for myself to being healthy and keep those germs at bay. Yes, I admit it I have jumped on the juicing band wagon but only because I am hearing so many amazing stories from everyone and I was lucky enough for a friend to give me her amazing juicing machine as she is moving to Spain. Bonus. So I will be sharing my progress as I start a three day detox, if I come out alive on the other side to tell you about it. Stay tuned.

Read

I have read this book cover to cover and a few tips, a few extra times but I am still not complete friends with my camera. I have been off AUTO for about six months and I am learning more and more each time I practice with it. I say roll on Spring so I can get outdoors and not have to worry so much about the gloomy light indoors. It’s a great book for beginners but it’s very basic so if you know about iso, shutter speed, and aperture then I wouldn’t recommend it.

Heard

I have been hearing one too many bloggers and friends in general saying they just can’t do it all, they can’t keep up or they feel so overwhelmed and like they are failing at everything. I have been guilty of this myself too. This week I wrote a post about how “she doesn’t exist” that perfect mythical super woman we all strive to be, I also did a video of my own reality to show those that say they think my life is perfectly glossy and glamorous, I am sorry to disappoint you, it is SO normal. Yes, my children cry and argue, yes, my laundry is spread out everywhere all the time, yes, my house gets messy and yes, I hardly get to shower let alone get dressed with makeup on each day. I wanted my reality to help others not be so hard on themselves and reminder to myself that I can’t do it all either! So even though it’s embarrassing to show my non makeup just woken up face and dirty house in this situation it’s a must!

Watched

I have been hooked back to the tv recorder with Scandal, Revenge, and even still watching that Broadchurch I ranted about last week. It’s picking up so I won’t let go just yet. As the new year gets going all my favorite shows are back in order. I love it.

Wore

I have broken out of my comfort zone and finally bought a hat! I love it but Mr P says I look like a weirdo in it. I have always loved hats but never thought I could pull it off. I am ignoring the man-pion, and trying it out for a wintery look. Honest thoughts? Would you think it was weird to have a black floppy hat on in January?

Made

This week I made the most scrumptious comforting homemade Butternut Squash Soup ever! Recipe will be on my blog tomorrow I haven’t had time while stuffing my face endlessly with it to write it up yet. So here a sneak peak for you to drool on it until then. 🙂

And lastly…

It’s now becoming a little tradition to share my Pinterest journey. I have been creating new pinterest boards this week, here is my latest board of ‘Floral Home Decor’. I love fresh flowers as much as I love fake flowers in the home. Ones that only need dusting and not watering tend to last the longest in our house as I usually have a black thumb. I have been pouring over some for new additions to our house and finding inspiration for upcoming Spring.

  1. I’ve definitely been struggling to find the right balance with everything lately and feeling like i’m failing miserably when it comes to blogging and other stuff. There are just never enough hours in the day anymore. Loved your little video and getting an insight in to your reality. That hat is awesome by the way and looks totally gorgeous on you, Mr P clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about because you do not look like a weirdo at all! On another note, that homemade butternut squash soup looks divine! Have a lovely weekend sweetie xxx #LittleLoves

  2. I really enjoyed your video. You still look very fresh and bright with no make up on. It can be hard to feel you have to compete or at least keep up with all the lovely images of perfection on Instagram. I’ve given up and show my house in all it’s messy glory! I’ll check back for your soup recipe, it looks delicious x #littleloves

  3. I think you really suit that hat. I’m not sure it would be suitable for ASDA, but then I no nothing about fashion, so you go for it! I really wanted to say that I found your video very refreshing. It impossible to do it. Two little kids are noisy and messy, and make you smile every day! Have a fab weekend Jenny x #LittleLoves

  4. *no is *know obviously! And I seem to have lost the end of the sentence – It’s impossible to do it all! Being messing is one thing but I seems to be unable to read and write these days! Not great for a blogger!

  5. Love the video Jenny, it’s nice to see we’re all in the same boat when it comes to reality! I’ll have to check out the post you wrote about it, can’t believe I missed it.
I think you rock the hat, ignore Mr P he’s a boy and doesn’t get fashion! 😉 xx

  6. Love that video so much, I regularly have a couch that looks just like that with clothes all over it…then eventually folded clothes all over it…then eventually I’ll put it away. I watched it twice after realising how you’ve got a bit of a British twang going on too 🙂

  7. That hat is amazing! i’ve been “brave” too lately and have been wearing more of my style without feeling like im being silly and over dressing. I got a gorgeous faux fur coat for Christmas and have been wearing it lots and feeling proud!

Love the video, glad its not me with the washing, I also have my three little ones climbing and bomb diving playing superheroes off me 😉 x

    • Oh your fur coat sounds amazing. I need to get one. Glad I am not the only one on the video front with kids climbing all over me. It’s true reality. Embarrassing but a must to show everyone life isn’t perfect.

  9. Thank you so much for writing your post about the ‘perfect’ person not existing and filming such an honest video – they’re both great and make you feel better about yourself!
I just bought this book and have just started reading it. So far, so good. I just need some time when the kiddies are asleep to get practising 🙂
Hope you have a lovely weekend xx

    • Thanks I used to only ever wear my hair straight and since becoming a mother for some reason curls just stick with me most days. lol It’s closer to my natural hair as it’s curly. I am still trying to be brave with my new hat. lol

  11. Jenny, I love that hat…don’t listen to a man!
Can I just say you are a real breath of fresh air. I swear everytime I’m giving myself a hard time about something (last week it was jealousy over Munch and hubs relationship) you post something that makes me rethink it. This week, that video was exactly what I needed to see. I could virtual kiss you for keeping me sane!
Hope you had a nice weekend (little late in doing my comments rounds) xx

    • Thanks my lovely. You are so sweet and I am SOOO glad I keep you sane because writing all that keeps me sane. I am no different then the rest over thinking and trying to keep my head above water and get it all done perfectly while being the favorite. It’s so much pressure we put on ourselves. Glad we all can show our reality and make others feel better about it all too. All in the same boat darling. I hope my posts and videos keep helping lol 😉 Better late than never my love I still need to catch up too! 🙂 So far behind. Another flaw of mine. hahaha
