Wow, I don’t even know where this week started and it’s not even really ending with the bank holiday tomorrow so feels weird to be writing my Pit & Peak of the Week now.
For those that don’t know, my Pit & Peak of the Week is a reflective post where I rave about my high and vent about my low of the past week. I find it therapeutic and I share what I have been up to throughout the week as well.
It’s been a really long week for me, I am completely exhausted at the moment. I truly think I could sleep for a week, right this very second. But I know my ‘to do list’ for tomorrow is never ending and just thinking about that makes me more exhausted.
I started night school this week. Attempting to take my Spanish lessons one step further as both my kids have now caught up with their old mom’s level of knowledge and in most cases as we sit and watch our disney movies in Spanish, I think they understand more than I do. Going back to school, in itself is nerve racking. Everyone in my class knew each other from the previous class whereas I jumped in at intermediate level alone and it’s now sink or swim! I was so scared that first day if I was challenging myself just a little too much with intermediate or not. Then came the homework! Eeek, I haven’t had homework in years.
I also have been attempting to landscape my garden, which I have no clue what I am doing but thanks to YouTube I now think I am a pro. But the labor is hard work. Digging up sod, and transferring to skips, and shovelling topsoil which turned into fifty trips with a wheel barrow, let’s just say my back and shoulders are a ball of burning fire.
And if gardening, Spanish classes, blogging and of course the obvious kids, house, husband weren’t busy enough, I am trying to make all the decorations for my little girl’s 1st birthday party next month. Finalize all the little details and make sure everything is on track so when the day pops up and bites me in the ass as most important occasions do, I will be prepared. I hope. There is still so much to do, and still so much to share with you all.
Pit: But overall this week has been testing my patience. Or rather my testy toddler has been testing my patience. I don’t know if I am just more grumpy with everything going on but it seems my 2 year old is trying to age me faster than you can say “stop doing that”. Which I have said a million times this week. I hate becoming that shouty mommy, but I even have become that after purposely pushing his sister over and running off laughing. My loose thread had broke. At one point, I couldn’t even say anything to him I was so mad, I just glared, and I think my silence actually scared him more than my shouting and it quickly reminded me of my own mother’s ‘stare’. She was a master at it. I am hoping it’s just a testing phase where he is seeing how far to push Daddy and Mommy but either way it adds to my exhaustion and is my big Pit this week. May I have more patience next week.
Peak: It is no secret I am new a blogger, and ever so paranoid about my writing being good or relevant but today I hit another blog milestone. I went to my very first blogging event, Blog On at MOSI in Manchester. I was like a kid on the first day of school, so nervous. I didn’t know what to expect or if anyone would even know me. My biggest fear was bloggers who I really admire being different than what I expected from their blogs. Or someone coming up to me like they knew all about me, but I would have no clue who they were even though I should as I talk to them on twitter or facebook. These were just a few of my fears. But none came true. After a glorious day of learning so much and hanging out with my partner in crime Butwhymummywhy I feel so much better about blogging and even more confident about my own blog. Something I really need to work on. I have been inspired by the bloggers I met today, like CapturebyLucy who I am so in awe of her creativity and talent, and getting to meet some of my favorite bloggers in real life like Mummy Daddy and Me, Not My Year Off, Not a Frumpy Mum, Farmers Wife & Mummy, and Hayley From Home, just to name a few that were so sweet and amazing in person to chat with along with so many others. Another great thing was to get to know bloggers I have never followed before but will be from here on out, like the lovely Alice from More Than Toast, how I missed your blog I will never know. I won’t be missing it again. Overall, it has been an amazing experience. I am still buzzing about it. Despite being exhausted, I haven’t been off twitter all evening, chatting with everyone I met today.
It really was a perfect ending to a long, tough week. Thank you Blog On and everyone who was a speaker for your advice, tips and guidance. And especially Tired Mummy of Two who put it all together for us, she did an amazing job, she wasn’t kidding on those goodies bags either. So heavy but I am so grateful!!
I made it to the SHORTLIST:
Please vote for Let’s Talk Mommy
for FRESH VOICE!
I hope you sit and watch Dora and Diego on a daily basis. Weirdly, Little Z loves watching Peppa Pig in Spanish, I have no idea why and I’m not sure if he even understands it! He does know how to say “Ola, mi nomre sit Elmo” though :). They will love you in class, I’m sure and you’ll be proficient in no time!
It was so good to finally meet you today. You’re just as bubbly as your blog is and your personality really shines through it. It was a really fun day wasn’t it?
Ahhh that’s amazing Little Z can say that. Buba can only say single words like Leche, no mas, no gracias, por favor it’s cute to hear though. Yes we need more Dora in this house. We watch handy manny sometimes too but mostly change the disney movies to spanish option. lol I hope you are right. This old brain ain’t what she used to be. Glad you had fun, it was a great day out. Glad I am what people expected I was really nervous.
Muchas gracias chica. You are one busy lady. I can’t wait for the first birthday post. It was so lovely meeting you. I didn’t realise you were so close so we should organise another get together very soon. 🙂
Ahhh, muy bien guapa. I know we should definitely meet up again. Yes I am forever busy. So much to do so little time I always say.
I’m loving this ‘pit & peak’ post – sounds as though you have it all going on. So glad you enjoyed your Blog On conference. It’s just so good to get together isn’t it?!
Yes, it was definitely amazing. Especially meeting other bloggers. They should do huge social events just for bloggers to come and meet other bloggers. The classes were great and helpful but I wanted more time with all these amazing bloggers! lol Glad you like it. It’s my one post that never really gets comments. hahaha But I love writing it. More like a diary entry at the end of the week.
Oh gosh, I’m there with the testing 2 year old too. So wonderful watching their personalities develop but do they have to be quite SO stubborn?
Glad you enjoyed Blog On and look forward to meeting you at BritMums next month! (OMG, is it only next month?!) x
I know I can’t believe it’s next month. It’s crazy. Time seems to be flying by so fast. I can’t wait to meet you too! Blog On was great! Took a few nerves away as I was petrified of BritMums. Still am a little. So many top bloggers and little newbie me. eeek. Yes I am really struggling with the testy twos all of the sudden. He is sooo whiny and stubborn! Awww Hope it’s a fast phase. Thank you so very much for stopping by and commenting.
Lovely Jenny, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you. You are just as you come across on your blog and social media- sweet and bubbly. I am so so pleased to have met you at long last. Can’t wait to hang out more at Brit Mums. x
