For Christmas we took the kids to Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg Idaho, USA. It was the first time our kids saw deep snow. Whilst it was one of the most lacking in snow winters they had, it was still SO much snow to us. We decided to stay there with our friends in a bedroom suite so we could make the most of our visit. With snow tubing, gondola rides, skiing, and an indoor water park, we really could have stayed a week rather than a night.

In true Taylor Family stride, our friends helped us pack in as much as we could in the 24 hours we stayed there.

SILVER MOUNTAIN LODGING

We stayed in two bedroom suites with a connecting door in between. My friends and their kids in one and my family in the other. It was the perfect setup for two families to share and stay. We had full kitchen, living room and dining area to entertain and hang out together. We played cards and kids watched movies and ate popcorn. We even could order pizza in so we could let the kids rest after a long day in the snow while the grown ups had a relaxing chill by the fire or out on the patio.

The decor had that amazing log cabin, mountain vibe. The beds were so comfortable too. I am always fussy when they say the sofa pulls out into a bed but pleasantly surprised there were no springs digging in your back or noise when the kids rolled over.

SILVER RAPIDS INDOOR WATERPARK

The kids would say they couldn’t choose which they loved more the snow or the water slides. Having water babies really makes it hard for them to also be snow bunnies. They instantly light up like a Christmas tree when they see water splashing, slides twisting, and spot a lazy river. I don’t blame them.

I liked the lay out of the waterpark too. There is a cafe and bar area both upstairs and downstairs so you can get refreshments and food when needed. They were amazing with my son’s severe food allergies which really got a bonus tick from us. We struggle at most places. Even had a Vegan option for Daddy. Now that was a double whammy. The food was good and portions were massive. Highly recommend kids can share. We had so much leftovers.

You can rent lockers and they even have a small shop at the entrance if you forgot your swimsuit or didn’t realize there was a waterpark. They have you covered. Kids too.

THE GONDOLA RIDE

I was slightly nervous to sit in a 25 minute or more inclosed glass lift over a snowy mountain but the views from above are worth it. The kids thought it was the best “carnival ride” ever. It does make you feel safe that it’s enclosed but some of the slopes going up are steep. But even if you aren’t taking it up to the top to go skiing or snow tubing, it’s worth the ride up. You can eat at the restaurant and bars at the top or just enjoy some nice hot chocolate and watch all the skiers and snow tubers. The views at the top are breathtaking too.

We had lunch after snow tubing. The food was good and great value. There was plenty of space for a big group like ours.

SNOW TUBING

This was worth it in gold. The kids snow highlight of our Christmas vacation. Even my goddaughter who was only 2 years old went in her own tube next to her mom of course. She loved it. They all loved it. There is a little belt that takes you back up so you can go again and again.

Just make sure you book in advance. We were told it wouldn’t be busy to show up on the day and just got lucky enough to do it on the last slot. It does get booked solid and you can’t just join in.

SKIING/SNOWBOARDING

We didn’t get to go skiing or snowboarding as we had babies with us. But we sipped hot chocolate on the balcony and watched people doing classes and going down slopes. It definitely is something we will come back and try as we have never skied before. It really looks like a great resort to have our first try at it though.

THE GROUNDS AT THE RESORT

I was highly impressed with the grounds at the resort. There was a pizza place, ice cream parlor, gift shop, the hotel, waterpark, ski shops, coffee shop, and in various areas outside shops fire pits with seating around it on every corner. The fire was always lit! Its a great place to chill with family and friends and chat or sip your coffee or the kids enjoy their ice cream with the winter sun on them.
